In this three-day workshop, Guy van Leemput will show you how to make wafer-thin porcelain bowls.
Workshop programme
The workshop begins with an introduction to the materials and explanations of the production concept.
During the workshop, each participant will make three bowls and the necessary holders that secure the workpiece in the kiln.
Guy van Leemput will show you many techniques for applying patterns and give you the opportunity to practice them yourself.
The use of colored porcelain opens up further design possibilities.
| Day 1 - Friday, September 11 | Detailed explanation of the technical aspects: use of different types of clay, use of a balloon, and introduction to the firing method. Production of a wafer-thin bowl and learning three simple decoration techniques. |
| Day 2 - Saturday, September 12 | Using a small clay press, advanced techniques for applying patterns are demonstrated. Each participant makes another porcelain bowl under personal guidance. |
| Day 3 - Sunday, September 13 | Now it's time to get colorful. Demonstration of design possibilities with colored porcelain. Each participant will make a colorful bowl. |
Important information about the course:
Prerequisite: Experience in ceramics is an advantage.
Please bring the following with you: A notebook, an apron, a towel, and a cardboard box (to transport the bowls you make)
Schedule: From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break
Refreshments: Soft drinks, coffee, tea, snacks, and a hot vegetarian lunch are included.

Guy van Leemput
Guy Van Leemput (1967, Herentals, Belgium) studied mathematics and ceramics.
He has been invited several times for an artist-in-residence at the Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute, Jingdezhen, China.
His work has been selected for competitions and group exhibitions in his own country and in other European countries, as well as in Japan, China and Australia.
At the MINO International Ceramics Competition 2014, his work “Big Anas” won the Bronze Award, it is now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu, Japan.
Guy was chosen as one of the Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artists 2020. In 2021 he was ‘recommended’ by the Michelangelo Foundation as ‘Master Artisan’. In 2022 he was a key speaker at ‘The Ceramics Congress, Australia’. More info on guyvanleemput.be.
