And this is how the workshop will run:
This workshop gives you a complete introduction to pottery on the wheel!
You will learn all the basic techniques for throwing and trimming. But the program also includes pulling handles, structuring and decorating surfaces and correct glazing techniques.
During the workshop there will be two firings (bisque and glaze firing), where we will show you how to set up a kiln correctly and talk about different firing techniques.
We will also analyze the firing results of both firings together afterwards.
Please note that this is a course for pottery enthusiasts who want to learn or improve their wheel throwing skills. It is mainly about learning different techniques, not about creating works. Two pieces per participant will be completed in this workshop and are included in the price.
If you would like to have more pieces fired and glazed by us, we will charge an extra 20€/kg of clay. These pieces can then be collected by you 3-4 weeks after the workshop.
This workshop is aimed at beginners and advanced beginners.
Day 1: | Preparing the clay for turning using the correct kneading technique; we practice centering and throwing the first vessels. |
Day 2: | The vessels made on day 1 will be trimmed, handles will be added if desired and tools can be used to create textures on the surface. In the afternoon we will continue to improve our skills by practicing on the wheel. |
Day 3: | The finished pieces from day 2 will be placed in the kiln for bisque firing. Afterwards, we will support you with your own individual projects. |
Day 4: | We unload the kiln together and discuss the firing results. After a theoretical introduction to glazes and glazing techniques, everyone can glaze two of their own vessels and try out different techniques. The finished glazed vessels are then placed in the kiln for the glaze firing. Afterwards there will be time again to improve your skills on the wheel. |
Day 5: | We start with a hands-on theory package in which all your questions about pottery are answered. We will also look at the various firing techniques such as oxidation firing, reduction firing, raku firing and salt firing. The highlight of the day will definitely be unloading the kiln. We carefully examine each individual piece and analyze the glaze result. |
